Dear Editor,
The war in Syria, cause long-term non-traumatic health problems in addition to the physical traumas of many people from different age groups. We aimed to reveal which age group needs medical treatment the most by separating the patients brought to our hospital from the border by years and age groups due to the inadequacy of the health system in their country within 5 years.Between the years 2015-2020, the patients brought to the ED of our hospital from the border were classified as gender and age groups and traumatic and non-traumatic (n:5911, k:1833, e:4034. 0-17 years: 2229, 18 -64 years: 2609, >64 years: 561, traumatic: 2148, non-traumatic: 3763)According to the data obtained from the beginning of 2015, the distribution of the patients who came to our hospital in the first years by years
In 2015;the percentage of nontraumatic patients was 44%,
0-17 age 28%,
18-64 age 59%,
>64 years 13%,
In 2016;Percentage of nontraumatic patients 47%
0-17 age 32%
18-64 age 59%
>64 years 19%
In 2017;Percentage of nontraumatic patients 58%
0-17 age 44%
18-64 age 46%
>64 years 10%
In 2018;Percentage of nontraumatic patients 85%
0-17 age 35%
18-64 age 50%
>64 years 15%
In 2019;Percentage of nontraumatic patients 79%
0-17 age 53%
18-64 age 36%
>64 years 11%
In 2020;the percentage of traumatic patients is 14%,
0-17 age 56%,
18-64 age 32%,
> 65 years of age 12%.
The age group most affected in the early stages of war is 18-64. This age group mostly applied to the hospital for traumatic reasons. However, in the following years, the age group changes to 0-18 and the most common reason for admission to the hospital in this group is nontraumatic reasons.
